Puppy Pricing

Our dachshund puppies typically start at $1,800 and up, depending on several factors. This price reflects the time, care, and love we put into raising healthy, well-socialized companions. If you are requesting Full AKC registration, there will be an additional fee based on the individual puppy and its pedigree.

What Affects the Price? Pricing is not one-size-fits-all. A few key factors may influence the final cost of each puppy:

Color or Pattern: Highly sought-after colors and patterns—like cream or dapple—can increase price due to demand.

Sex: Males and females may differ slightly in price based on current availability and demand.

Pedigree: Puppies with champion bloodlines or rare lineage may be priced higher due to their exceptional heritage.

Note: Coat type (long or smooth) does not affect the price of our puppies.

We are always happy to discuss pricing in detail with approved applicants and help you understand what to expect before placing a deposit.

What’s Included with Each Puppy

Every Heartland Dachshunds puppy is raised with love, care, and attention from the very beginning. When you take home one of our puppies, you can feel confident knowing they come with a 1-year health guarantee covering life-threatening congenital disorders such as liver shunts, serious heart defects, and hydrocephalus.

Your puppy will be up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations and deworming and will have received gentle, daily handling to ensure they are well-socialized and ready to bond with their new family.

To activate the health guarantee, we require all new owners to have their puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of pickup. This early checkup helps ensure your puppy transitions safely into your home and gives both of us peace of mind.

We also provide transition support, including guidance on basic puppy care, feeding, and settling in at home—especially helpful for first-time dachshund owners. If you’ve selected AKC registration, your puppy will come with the appropriate AKC paperwork (Limited or Full, depending on your purchase).

Our goal is to make sure your new family member starts their life with you healthy, happy, and well-prepared for their forever home.

Sales & Payment Policies

To reserve a puppy, we require a $300 non-refundable deposit, which will be applied toward the final purchase price. This deposit confirms your intent to purchase and allows us to hold the puppy for you, removing them from availability. Please note: deposits are only refundable in the rare event that the puppy develops a health issue while in our care.

The remaining balance is due at pickup or prior to delivery, and must be paid in full by the time the puppy reaches 8 weeks of age. We accept the following forms of payment:

For deposits: Cash, personal check, certified check, or Zelle

For final payment: Cash, certified check, or Zelle

(We do not accept personal checks for final balances.)

All payments must be made on time to avoid forfeiting your reserved puppy. If you need additional time or arrangements, please contact us in advance—we’re happy to work with families we trust.

Pickup & Boarding Policy

Puppies will be available no sooner than 8 weeks old and must be emotionally ready to leave their mother. We do not release puppies before this time, as early separation can negatively impact their development and well-being.
We require all new owners to have their puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within 72 hours of pickup. This checkup is an important part of your puppy’s transition home and is necessary to activate our health guarantee.

We kindly ask that all final payments and pickup or delivery arrangements be completed by the time the puppy is 10 weeks of age. If no arrangements have been made by that point, the puppy may be relisted for adoption so we can find them a home in a timely manner.

If we’ve agreed to hold your puppy beyond 8 weeks, we’re happy to do so for up to 10 days—but please note that a $10 per day boarding fee will apply after the 10 day grace period, along with the cost of any additional veterinary care (such as vaccines) given during that time.

We’re always here to work with families who communicate clearly, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need extra time or have a special situation.

Returns & Rehoming Policy

At Heartland Dachshunds, we believe that bringing home a puppy is a lifelong commitment—but we also understand that life can bring unexpected changes. If you ever find yourself unable to keep your puppy, we ask that you reach out to us directly before taking any other steps.

We are always willing to assist with safe and responsible rehoming, and if needed, we will welcome the puppy back into our care. Our top priority is ensuring that every Heartland puppy remains safe, healthy, and loved throughout their life.

We do not allow our puppies to be rehomed independently, placed in shelters, or surrendered to rescue organizations.

By adopting from us, you become part of the Heartland family—and we’ll always be here to support you and your puppy, no matter what.

Reserving from Upcoming Litters

We accept a limited number of preborn deposits for upcoming litters — usually one male and one female per litter once pregnancy is confirmed. This gives families a chance to reserve early, before puppies are born.

When placing a preborn deposit, you’ll need to tell us your preferred sex, coat type, and color or pattern.
If the litter doesn’t produce your selection, you can choose to transfer your deposit to a future litter or receive a refund.

We post confirmed pregnancies and parent photos on our Upcoming Litters page as soon as they’re available.
💡 Preborn deposits are only accepted once pregnancy is confirmed.

State Licensing & Sales Tax

Heartland Dachshunds is a state-licensed breeder in the state of Illinois, operating in full compliance with all local and agricultural regulations. As part of our legal responsibility, we are required to collect 6.75% Illinois sales tax on every puppy purchase.

We are proudly registered with the Illinois Department of Agriculture, which regularly inspects and oversees our breeding practices to ensure the highest standards of care and ethical breeding.

By purchasing from a licensed breeder, you’re supporting responsible breeding practices and helping ensure that all animals are raised in healthy, humane conditions.
