FAQ Dachshund
When Can Puppies Go HOme?
Puppies are generally ready to go to their forever homes at 8-9 weeks of age. They will of had their first immunizations and been fully weaned. We’ll let you know when your pup is ready!
What food do you use?
Puppies are fed Diamond Naturals Small Breed Puppy Food, a high-quality formula we've used for years and trust to support healthy development.
How are puppies socialized?
From birth, our puppies are handled daily, exposed to everyday sounds, and get lots of love from our family. This early socialization helps them become friendly, confident, and well-adjusted.
Do you offer delivery or pickup only?
We prefer local pickup in Mount Vernon, but we can sometimes help coordinate ground delivery within a reasonable distance. Let’s talk — we’ll do our best to help!
What’s included when I bring my puppy home
Each puppy comes with a health guarantee, up-to-date vaccinations, deworming, and a take-home pack. This often includes food, a blanket with familiar scents, a toy and important paperwork like health records and registration!
Can I visit the puppies or meet the parents?
Yes, we welcome visits by appointment only once the puppies are old enough. Meeting the parents is a great way to get a feel for temperament and size. For the safety of our dogs and puppies, we limit visits to approved homes only.
How does the adoption process work?
After you contact us, we’ll walk you through our application and approval process. Once approved, you can place a deposit to reserve a puppy. Puppies are typically ready to go home at 8-9 weeks of age. We’ll stay in touch with updates, photos, and pickup details as the date approaches.
Can I choose my puppy, or do you match them to families?
We offer both options. If you're looking for a specific personality or temperament (calm, playful, outgoing), we’re happy to help match you with the right fit. While you're welcome to choose based on photos or visits, we may offer recommendations to ensure the best long-term match for your home and lifestyle.
What steps do you take to ensure your dogs are ethically bred?
We follow strict breeding practices, including health testing of all parent dogs, proper spacing between litters, and only breeding dogs with sound temperaments. We do not support overbreeding or puppy mills, and every puppy is raised in a clean, nurturing environment with personal care.
What support do you offer after I take my puppy home?
We’re here for you beyond pickup day! We offer lifetime breeder support, which means you can reach out with questions about training, health, behavior, or anything else. We love updates and are happy to stay connected to help ensure your puppy thrives in their new home.
How big does the average Dachshund get?
Dachshunds typically come in two sizes: Miniature and Standard. Miniature Dachshunds usually weigh 11 pounds or less, while Standard Dachshunds generally weigh between 16 and 32 pounds. Their height at the shoulder ranges from about 5 to 9 inches, depending on the size variety.
