How to Adopt a Puppy

We take pride in matching each puppy with the perfect home. Here's exactly how our adoption process works:

Browse Our Available Puppies

Start by visiting our Available Puppies page. Each listing includes clear photos, the puppy’s name, birthday, gender, and other important details.

Take your time getting to know them—you might just fall in love.

Fill Out a Puppy Application

When you’re ready, complete our Puppy Application Form (hosted on Google Forms). This helps us learn more about you, your home, and the kind of environment you’ll provide.

Important: No payment is required at this stage. We do not accept deposits until your application is approved.

We Review Your Application

We personally review each application to ensure a good match between puppy and family. This isn’t first-come, first-served—we prioritize the right fit over speed.

If everything looks great, you’ll receive a friendly message letting you know you’re approved to adopt.

​​Secure Your Puppy with a $300 Deposit

Once approved, you’ll be invited to place a $300 non-refundable deposit to officially reserve your puppy.
This deposit goes toward the final price and guarantees that the puppy will be held for you.

• ✅ Cash (local only)

Final Payment & Puppy Pickup or Delivery

The remaining balance is due at the time of pickup or before delivery is arranged. We do our best to accommodate your needs with several safe delivery options:

• 🏡 Pickup — You're welcome to pick up your puppy at our home in Mount Vernon, IL.
• ✈️ Airport Meet-Up — We can meet you at a nearby airport for convenience.
• 🚚 Potential Delivery— Available for an additional cost; we may be able to deliver or meet you. This is available at our discretion

We’ll stay in close contact as your puppy’s big day approaches.

​Health Guarantee & Lifetime Return Policy

Every Heartland Dachshund puppy comes with a 1-year health guarantee covering:

• Congenital liver shunt
• Severe heart defects
• Hydrocephalus or other life-threatening congenital conditions

You’ll also receive a signed adoption contract, which includes our lifetime return policy:

❤️ If your situation changes and you can’t keep your puppy, we ask that you contact us first. We’re happy to help with safe rehoming or bring the puppy back ourselves.
